Common A/C Issues

Clogged drain line
Ductwork

Dirty Air Filter- resulting in system to become clogged with debris. This will cause your system to have restricted airflow. This can cause your system to freeze up. Make sure to change your air filter regularly.

Poor Airflow/Duct work issues- This could be from poor installation, disconnected joints, deteriorating duct tape, punctures, or corrosion. The ducts could also be the wrong size too small restrict airflow; too large ducts reduce air velocity and cause uneven distribution of air. There could also be blockages or obstructions in the ducts caused by dust buildup, collapsed flex ducts, debris, or pest nests.

Refrigerant- There can be many reasons why your system is low on refrigerant. There could be a leak coming from the line-set, indoor coil or outdoor coil. Your system could have too much refrigerant in it (improper charge) causing the pressures to be too high. If you notice ice on your line-set, indoor coil or condensing unit (outdoor unit), turn the system off immediately.

Condensate Pump/Drain issues- Georgia’s high humidity means the AC has to work not only to cool but to remove moisture from the air. If the drain becomes clogged, you could get water leaks or humidity issues. It is very important to have your A/C serviced before the Summer heat. The condensate drain lines need to be blown out before the hot weather comes.

Preventive Tips

  • Get your AC system professionally inspected and tuned before the hot season.

  • Replace/clean air filters frequently.

  • Keep outdoor unit clear of debris, leaves, and ensure proper airflow.

  • Make sure condensate drain lines are clear and operating.

  • If you notice any of these signs (weak airflow, warm air, higher bills, humidity problems), don’t wait! Waiting could cost you MORE money.

  • Consider system age: if your AC is 8-12 years old and frequently needing repairs, evaluate replacement.
